ABOUT US       

Collective Circus is a group of young, aspiring circus artists based in South-East Queensland. Founded by Zoe Joiner, who was inspired by the disparity within the emerging and professional circus scene. Having graduated from youth circus herself, she encountered uncertainty about her next steps, a sentiment shared by many of her peers. This realisation led her to gather them together as a collective, determined to pursue their shared passion for circus arts.

 

Since its inception, Collective Circus has been dedicated to providing a platform for young artists transitioning from youth circus to the professional stage. Zoe's vision is to offer these emerging talents the opportunity to develop their skills as performers and gain valuable experience in various aspects of the industry.

 

Our practice is guided by three core values: Connect, Create, and Captivate. Connect is about bringing artists together and building strong networks. Create focuses on supporting artists to develop new work and creative ideas. Captivate is about helping artists understand their audiences and tell stories through circus that leave a lasting impact.

 

Collective Circus has presented works including Waitlisted (2022), developed through Flying Fruit Fly Circus’ Under Construction program, performed at Woodford Folk Festival, Fringe Brisbane, Backbone Festival, National Circus Festival and Buskers By the Lake, and Stir The Pot (2024–25), developed through Flipside Circus’ Artist-in-Residence program, premiering at The Judith Wright Arts Centre, National Circus Festival, and Adelaide Fringe Festival. Currently Collective Circus are Artists-in-Residence at Vulcana Circus and are looking forward to developing a new work.
